Martin Malin is Professor of Law and Director of the Institute for Law and the Workplace at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology. He teaches courses in labor law, employment law, employment discrimination, public sector employment, contracts and jurisprudence. He runs the school’s labor and employment law program, including its conferences and public lectures, publications and law student certificate program in labor and employment law. He also maintains a part-time practice as a labor and employment arbitrator and mediator. In October 2009, President Obama appointed Professor Malin as a member of the Federal Service Impasses Panel for a term that runs through January 2014.

Professional Experience
Professor Malin joined the Chicago-Kent faculty in 1980, after serving on the faculty at Ohio State University and as law clerk to U.S. District Judge Robert DeMascio in Detroit. He has published five books and more than 60 articles on labor and employment law and dispute resolution. During Winter 2010, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan Law School. Professor Malin has had an active practice as a labor and employment relations neutral since 1984. As a member of the Federal Service Impasses Panel, he resolves impasses in collective bargaining between federal agencies and the unions that represent the agencies’ employees. He also serves as a hearing officer for the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. From 1984-86, he served as a consultant to the newly-created Illinois public sector labor relations boards and drafted the regulations implementing the Illinois public sector collective bargaining statutes.
Professional Affiliations
Professor Malin currently serves on the Board of the U.S. Branch of the International Society for Labor and Social Security Law, and on the Executive Committee of The Labor Law Group. He formerly served on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Arbitrators. He is a past-president of the Section on Labor Relations and Employment Law of the Association of American Law Schools and a past president of the Chicago Chapter of the Industrial Relations Research Association (now known as the Labor and Employment Relations Association). In 2008, Professor Malin was the Scholar-in-Residence at the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section ADR Committee’s midwinter meeting. He serves as co-editor of Employee Rights & Employment Policy Journal, and as faculty editor of the Illinois Public Employee Relations Report. He is also a contributing editor to JOTWELL.com.
